Astray
by Manuel Ermecheo
Astray is a short film written and directed by Manuel Ermecheo which explores the concept of self-imprisonment. This film focuses on the struggles of Adam, a highly introverted individual with social anxiety, who is experiencing a full mental breakdown after losing his fiance Emma. Snapping in and out of reality, the film takes place in between Adam’s mind and his last romantic dinner with Emma where he confronts his fears.
The visual storytelling of Adam’s mental state is pushed forth with a stylized use of visual effects, sound design and color grading. A dream-like world is created as the narrative takes us into the depths of Adam’s mind. The film is currently under post-production and was created with the intent of mixing traditional narrative-based film and experimental video art.
This short film is done in collaboration with KJ Rothweiler, Merra Mouawad, Celina Arslanian, Johanne Ebel, Meher Jaffri, Pablo Sandstorm, and Julie Deffe.
